New Mexico's other national lab may also have to shut down because of the budget battle on Capitol Hill.
Los Alamos National Lab told its employees today it will close next week if the shutdown continues.
LANL says it will close its doors at the end of the day next Friday, October 19.
They will start furloughing workers the following Monday, October 21.
More than 10,000 employees work at the lab.
Officials say only people required to maintain minimum safety will stay working.
