ALBUQUERQUE -- The I-25/Paseo Interchange Project started early Tuesday without too many setbacks to morning traffic, but NMDOT officials say they expect a different situation tonight.

Officials said drivers should expect traffic to be the worst in this area around noon and early evening.

"I have about 30 minutes to get to my daughter's second bus stop, so if I'm late, it's going to be a problem," said Erica Rowland, a motorist who drives on Paseo Del Norte almost every day.

According to NMDOT, the interchange has an estimated 154,000 vehicles passing through on an average day and more than 56 million vehicle trips annually. Officials encourage commuters to allow extra time in the mornings and evenings during the first few days of construction.

There will be different phases of the project, including a free flow ramp, to improve the morning commute.
