Tierra Blanca Ranch owner Scott Chandler's attorney was in court today to say the state overstepped its bounds.
As to whether Chandler ever plans to talk to New Mexico State Police, the short answer is: No. His attorney won't let him.
This, as his attorney fought CYFD, which wanted to put this case behind closed doors to better protect the identities of the boys from the ranch.
The attorney says the case should remain open, and that anything short of that would hurt Chandler's ability to defend himself.
4 On Your Side wanted to know where Scott Chandler is, so the question was posed to his attorney, Pete Domenici, Jr.
"My client is available. I will be debriefing him," Domenici said.
Although Domenici says he knows where Chandler is, he won't tell us and won't tell New Mexico State Police.
"I would make it clear to people that when you have an onslaught of resources that went into an Amber Alert, that went into a sealed search warrant, the chief executive of the state, the state police who work for her, you would do exactly what he's doing," Domenici said.
And that is to stay in hiding. That's where, Domenici also says, Chandler is holding up just fine.
"But as information comes out, I don't think he's concerned at all," Domenici said.
Several things came from today's hearing, and that is: Court documents will be sealed for now. Court proceedings itself will remain open.
Also, the judge wants to see to it that no one, including the governor, talks about elements of the case that are sealed.
