Albuquerque Public Schools police are investigating the attempted kidnapping of a child in southwest Albuquerque on Wednesday morning.

According to a letter sent by APS to parents, two siblings walking to Edward Gonzales Elementary School were approached by a stranger on Tower Road before 8 a.m. The children told police that a man in a black pickup truck tried to grab one of them and force her into the vehicle.

The student, a third grader, was able to get away with the help of her brother and was not seriously injured. They ran to the school crossing guard and were not chased by the man, according to APS.

The investigation is ongoing. The school district urges parents to talk to their children about stranger danger.
