DENVER (KUSA) -- A Navy veteran who served his country for nearly a decade says he was about to lose his VA benefits had Congress and the Senate not reached a deal.

"People think it is a game. You hear certain people talk about poll numbers, and it's about who's losing more. It's not a game in my case," Tim Vogt said.

Vogt was happy to hear a deal had been reached on Wednesday. But looking back on the last 16 days, he grew furious thinking about what could have been.

His 3-year-old daughter, Abigail, relies solely on his VA benefits. During her short life, she has already undergone six heart surgeries.

Vogt says without his benefits, medical costs would climb in to the millions.

Abigail will be able to get a life-saving surgery now that her father's VA benefits will be restored.
