A suspicious device found in the Far Northeast Heights on Thursday morning has been rendered safe by police.

Authorities first learned of the suspicious device just after 10 a.m. when someone walking near Tennyson and Cedar Hill called 911 to report a tubular shaped item wrapped in tape.

Deputies secured the scene and evacuated some homes while an APD bomb squad responded to the scene. The device was removed from the residential area and taken to a space north of the county line and Tramway Boulevard, where it was determined to be safe.

Tramway was temporarily closed while authorities transported the device, but all roadways are now back open. Double Eagle Elementary School was also place a "shelter in place" order during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
