Gilbert Zamora has been a custodian at an Albuquerque elementary school for four years but now he's behind bars.
Police told KOB Eyewitness News 4 they arrested Zamora after he thought he was meeting up with a 12 year-old girl he met online for sex. Instead, he was met by police.
"It makes me sad. I mean, I have a kid of my own," said Cosmo, who's lived next door to Zamora for years.
Cosmo didn't want to show his face on camera but said he was disgusted by the charges. "It's scary now. I mean, I'm going to be a little bit more cautious when I step outside and talk to the people around me. I mean, you just never know," added Zamora.
Zamora appeared in an Albuquerque court on Thursday.
APD arrested him Wednesday night after he thought he was meeting a 12 year-old girl he met online. The girl never existed. Zamora was talking to an undercover police officer all along.
KOB learned Zamora was a custodian at a southwest Albuquerque elementary school since 2009. The school sent a letter to parents on Thursday about Zamora's arrest.
"He will not return to Carlos Rey Elementary," said Monica Armenta of APS.
KOB went to Zamora's house for comment but no answer.
KOB also called Zamora's fiancé. She didn't call back but did respond with a text that read, no comment.
