Her body was found naked and bound in the Pecos River in southeastern New Mexico.
As investigators near Loving work to find her killer, the murder is serving as a painful reminder to another family who is still waiting on justice.
Eddy County deputies are trying to catch a killer.
A killer they said bound 24-year-old Anna L. Villegas by her hands and feet and dumped her naked body in the Pecos River.
“That area is also very popular for hunters and fishers. A lot of people like to go down there and camp," said Eddy County Sheriff Scott London.
London said not only was Villegas found in a popular area, but next to a busy highway.
“Very high traffic area which makes it a little unusual that somebody would leave a body so close to the highway," said London.
Dive teams and investigators have searched the river and the area for evidence.
“Obviously with her being bound and nude that’s not a typical homicide that we see here in Eddy County," said London.
The last time the county has seen a homicide like this was in 2002 when 21-year old Sasha Hedgecock was found on the side of the road in Carlsbad.
She was found in a field on Christmas day. She had been shot in the head and later died at the hospital.
“I feel real bad for that woman that they found the other day and it hits home," said Kayla Hedgecock.
Kayla and Sierra are Hedgecock’s sisters. They said hearing about another woman murdered brings back memories.
Sasha’s killer has never been found.
“I hope that they can find who did this to this woman so the family can get some closure," said Kayla Hedgecock.
