Strong winds are expected across most of the state Wednesday before temperatures dip and snow chances increase for nothern New Mexico overnight.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow in northern sections of the state from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Snow accumulations of 3-7 inches will be possible over the central to northeastern highlands while 7-10 inches are expected in the higher elevations along the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristos and the San Juans.
Some snow will begin falling in northern New Mexico late this afternoon, but is expected to increase in intensity through the evening.
Periods of snow will persist into Thursday and will then begin to taper off from west to east on Thursday evening.
