ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - Another New Mexico ski area is planning to open this week thanks to the latest blast of winter weather.

Sandia Peak Ski Area spokeswoman Deborah Owen said Monday the ski area will open Friday with what she called the best skiing conditions in a decade.

Sandia had originally planned to open a week later but the recent snowfall has helped to build a base of about 2 feet.

Resorts across northern New Mexico and Ski Apache in the south are already open.

Light snow flurries were common Monday in some areas of the state, but forecasters with the National Weather Service say this will be the last round of precipitation until late Thursday or Friday.

Until then, the arctic grip will strengthen, leaving much of the state with freezing temperatures and wind.
