Students and teachers at a Four Corners middle school are finding touching ways to remember the school's athletic director.
Scott Schwarting was found dead after a fire at housing complex in Shiprock.
The halls of Tse' Bit' A’i Middle School feel empty today.
Teachers say the passing of athletic director Scott Schwarting has left a hole in the school and in their hearts.
"We don't see him wandering the hallways we don't see net to his door him telling kids to get to class," said Marjo Hulsey, colleague and friend of Schwarting.
Firefighters responded to a call at Schwarting's home yesterday morning, and found him unresponsive.
Schwarting lived in a teacher housing unit next to an elementary school.
After hearing about his death, students started leaving notes in his office, letting him know that he'll be missed, and how much he touched their lives.
Friend and colleague Marjo Hulsey says her mornings aren't the same without him.
"I usually have coffee with him every morning so I didn't get to have coffee his morning with him or yesterday morning and that was a missing part of coming to school."
Karen Pete heard about Schwarting at a basketball game last night.
She says Schwarting was a kind man, who always greeted her at the games.
"Because I’m in a wheel chair he gave us a special spot to sit by the bleachers," Pete said.
Tonight the school is holding a community meeting to help bring everyone together and to mourn the loss of someone they considered family.
