It was a somber day in Rio Rancho as law enforcement from throughout the state paid their respects to one of their own.
On Thursday, family, friends and law enforcement came together to say goodbye to Sandoval County Sgt. Robert Baron.
Sgt. Baron was investigating a weather-related crash last Thursday when he was hit by a car on I-25. He died a day later, leaving behind his 10-year-old and his wife of more than 20 years.
"Everyone keeps saying how strong I am. I'm not. It's your prayers and the love of Jesus Christ that are allowing me to stand here today," Krysia Baron said.
Baron talked about her husband and his passion, but she also wanted the driver who hit her husband to know something.
"I don't know if I'll be able to get through all of what I've prepared, so first I'd like to address the drivers that hit my husband. I can only imagine what you're feeling and I want you to know that I hold no bitterness towards you. You are forgiven," Baron said.
