Santa Fe Magistrate closed for scabies scare

SANTA FE, N.M. - Santa Fe Magistrate court is closed after a person inside reported they were a possible carrier of scabies.

The court made the decision to close just before 10 a.m. after a witness told officials someone claiming to have the disease was inside. Officials are investigating the incident, according to Santa Fe police.

Scabies are pimple-like irritations that cause intense inching over most the body. Sores caused by scratching can become infected by bacteria, according to the Center for Disease Control.

Scabies can be spread by skin-to-skin contact with a person infected with the disease.
