A Four Corners woman got the surprise of a lifetime.
For years, her love of painting has been a passionate hobby, but that all changed when her daughter decided enter her paintings into a contest.
Kathy Ewing’s passion for art started when she was a young child.
She loves to paint florals, Southwest landscapes and pictures of her daughters dancing.
It’s those paintings that brought her to New York City.
"My daughter called and said 'Get ready, Mom you're coming to New York' and she said 'What for?'" she said.
Ewing’s daughter, who lives in New York, took one of her paintings to a call for artist for the Estrogenius show in New York City.
But what she didn't tell her mother is that they like the painting so much, they wanted to Ewing to do a solo show as well.
"Before I got there they set up a one man show there," she said.
Ewing says it was the experience of a lifetime.
"To have people come up and admire your work and really show in an interest in something you've loved all your life is wonderful," she said.
Ewing says she would like to start selling prints of her art around Farmington and will keep working on her art. She says painting has always been a part of her life and can't imagine life without art.
"I can get awfully unhappy if i don't get a paint brush in my hand sometimes,” she said.
