LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - Authorities are identifying the driver in a Christmas Eve crash near Los Lunas as a 35-year-old man who reportedly stole his mother's car.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department says Victor Padilla stole the vehicle and was speeding when he lost control and struck a roadside barrier.

Authorities say Padilla then left the vehicle and fled on foot across Interstate 25 before jumping over a barrier and falling 25 feet. It wasn't immediately clear why he jumped.

Officials say Padilla died from injuries sustained in the fall, and that alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
