Rio Rancho Police investigating deadly assault

Rio Rancho, NM – A man has died in the hospital on Saturday after possibly being assaulted this morning in the City of Vision. 

According to Rio Rancho Police spokesperson Janet Garcia a call came in at approximately 7:30am reporting a male down on the roadway in front of the Hot Tamales restaurant on 528. 

Officers responded to the area and found a male unresponsive on the street.  The subject received CPR and was immediately transported to the hospital. 

Police believe the male was assaulted or possibly hit by a moving vehicle.   

According to Garcia the victim had sustained some type of trauma to his body but it is still unknown what caused the trauma. 

Rio Rancho police is currently looking for a four-door, midsize, early 2000’s green sedan.

Investigators are conducting a canvass of the area to see if any of the nearby businesses has surveillance video of the incident.

Rio Rancho Boulevard was reopened to traffic at approximately 4pm.
