An Albuquerque mother is facing charges after admitting that she repeatedly kicked her 9-year-old son, who later died at the hospital.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 first told viewers about the incident on Friday night.

The boy was initially reported to have died from falling off a rocking horse.

The mother, Synthia Varela-Casaus, is behind bars.

Casaus admitted to repeatedly kicking the boy in the stomach during an argument, which caused him to hit his head on a dresser and the ground.

Police say Casaus continued to kick the boy repeatedly after he hit his head.

Casaus faces charges of child abuse resulting in death.
