If you’re celebrating New Year’s Eve with a couple drinks, Bernalillo County has a plan in place to help you get home safely – and some local party planners are also offering packages to make sure you don’t get behind the wheel if you shouldn’t.
On every big drinking holiday, Bernalillo County offers free “Tavern Taxi” rides to drinkers so they don’t get behind the wheel. AAA also promotes a “Tipsy Tow” service as a last resort. Now, some event organizers are helping party goers plan their safe ride before the night even starts.
The New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science hosts its first New Year’s Eve party tonight, as they try to attract more single adults to the museum.
“Typically people come when they're kids, and they come when they have kids, but we're trying to tell people the museum is a fun place to come between those ages as well,” NM Museum of Natural History and Science Public Information Officer Randall Gann said.
They’ve set up packages with Embassy Suites that get you dinner and a room at the hotel, plus rides to and from the museum to enjoy the party and the cash bar they’re offering.
“We want people to come down and have a good time with us, we also want them to be safe out on the roads. Drinking and driving is just not an option so that package is fantastic for that,” Gann said.
The museum still has party tickets for sale. Room and ride packages can be bought through Embassy Suites.
Free tavern taxi rides through the county go from 10 until 2 tonight. Call 505-999-1400 to access them.
