An Albuquerque family is homeless for the New Year after two fires ignited in their house overnight.

Firefighters were first dispatched to the home near 98th and Tower for a kitchen fire around 11:30 p.m. Albuquerque fire crews responded to the scene and reported seeing flames and smoke. AFD said the crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

But about an hour later, the fire department was called out to the same home and found the kitchen on fire again. Crews managed to put out the second fire and contain the damage to the kitchen.

No one was hurt in the incident, but the house was deemed unlivable and unsafe for the family to stay in.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
