ALBUQUERQUE -- A 90-year-old man died after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Montgomery Boulevard on Friday.

The crash took place near Carlisle Boulevard around 7:30 a.m. Albuquerque police said Joseph Jones stepped into traffic from the south side of Montgomery and was hit while walking toward the north median.

Investigators said Jones was not using the crosswalk and that the driver, Eugene Garcia, attempted to swerve, but did not have enough time and distance to react.

Jones was pronounced dead on scene.

The case will be forwarded to the district attorney's office to determine if any charges should be filed against the driver.
