Valencia County fire crews responded to a brush fire near the intersection of Gabaldon Road and Los Chapolines Road on Saturday afternoon.

According to Dan Ware with the New Mexico State Forestry Division, 10 acres burned west of the Rio Grande and south of Los Chavez.

Due to high wind in the area, crews had a difficult time controlling the fire so it would not reach the bosque.

Valencia County fire crews were also keeping a close eye over the grass fire to prevent it from spreading to a couple of nearby structures. The Belen Fire Department assisted the county with suppression efforts, according to Chief Manny Garcia.
