Albuquerque city councilors are seeking a bigger role in future Albuquerque Public Schools construction projects after a dispute over a recent road project.

In September, APS built a student drop off loop behind Jefferson Middle School.

Some neighbors did not want the loop, and the city council asked that construction be delayed so a meeting could be held.

APS went ahead with the project anyway.

“It’s not the design we favored but we weren't included in the planning and for the most part it was built the way APS wanted it to,” City Councilor Isaac Benton said.

Benton will propose a plan at Monday’s city council meeting.

It calls for the city and APS to work together to study the impact that future projects will have on the surrounding area.
