An Albuquerque man is facing child abuse charges after striking his girlfriend’s son with a belt.

Aaron Gilliam faced a judge on Saturday morning.

Court records show that Gilliam told police that the boy got in trouble at school so that is why he hit him up to seven times.

The boy’s back was bruised from the beating.

Gilliam also faces drug possession charges after police say they found heroin on him.

Police say Gilliam told them he uses the drug on a daily basis and did not believe he was doing anything wrong.

CYFD is investigating the case.
