Berrendo Middle School is closed to staff and students Wednesday after a school shooting seriously injured two students. But investigators will be at the school today, working to find out more about what happened and why.

New Mexico State Police have three active search warrants for the suspected shooter's home, his bag and his locker. State Police said charges are pending against the boy, who officials have not yet identified.

The Associated Press reported that the suspect was transferred to an Albuquerque psychiatric hospital on Tuesday.

"He was a nice kid. He was in honors, and no one really bullied him, he had friends," one student told KOB about the suspect.

The two shooting victims – a 13 year-old girl and a 12 year-old boy – are still in a Lubbock hospital. Officials say the girl, Kendal Sanders, was shot in her right shoulder and is in stable condition. The 12 year-old boy was shot in the face and neck and at last check, was in critical condition.

On Tuesday, nearly a dozen agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms surrounded the suspected shooter's home. A neighbor said the boy's family was normal and nice, and that they're absolutely stunned to hear about what happened.

"I've never had any issues with their kids and, you know, this thing, that's why when the news broke out I was in shock. I just could not believe that it could happen so close to home," Margarita Macias said.
