KOB Eyewitness News 4 has decided to release the identity of the Roswell school shooting suspect after New Mexico State Police said it would not hinder their investigation.

Mason Campbell, 12, is accused of shooting a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl with a sawed-off shotgun at Berrendo Middle School on Tuesday morning.

Authorities said a teacher convinced Campbell to put the gun down. The boy was detained by a state police officer who was dropping off his child at the time of the incident.

The two injured students remain hospitalized in Lubbock, Texas. The boy remains in critical condition on Wednesday after undergoing two surgeries. The girl, Kendal Sanders, was upgraded from serious to stable condition last night.
