The process to remove the Bernalillo County treasurer from office will start over again on Friday.

Albuquerque attorney James Dory went before a judge last week to ask permission to start a petition to get Treasurer Manny Ortiz recalled, but the judge recused herself from the case.

The process starts anew before a different judge at 1 p.m.

Ortiz is accused of mishandling county finances and also received a "no confidence" vote from the county commission.

County leaders criticized Ortiz's investment practices for tying up the county's cash. The commissioners said Bernalillo County now faces about $22 million worth of losses.

If the judge allows the petition drive, it would take 45,000 valid voter signatures to get Ortiz out of office.
