A book by New Mexico's Republican congressman is getting some unwanted attention for a line about his wife being "submissive."

The book, titled "Just Fly the Plane, Stupid!", tells Rep. Steve Pearce's life story from growing up on a farm to owning his own company and becoming a congressman.

But a Washington Post article is focusing on a line about Pearce's family, reading: "The wife is to voluntarily submit, just as the husband is to lovingly lead and sacrifice."

The Post writes this statement comes at a time when the Republican Party is working on how its officials speak to women.

A spokesperson for Pearce says the Post is either trying to "deceive readers" or commit "sloppy journalism." He sent a statement saying Pearce's comment doesn't apply to other families; it's just how he and his wife choose to manage their relationship.

The spokesman also says the article failed to mention other lines from the same chapter, where Pearce wrote against male-dominated marriages.
