The family of Daniel Sanchez is grieving, but they’re also furious.

“It's bad enough that we lost Danny... just because of the stupidity of somebody getting behind the wheel, drinking and driving,” family spokesperson Gina Silva said.

Twenty-seven year old Jacob Williams is accused of driving drunk and hitting Sanchez’s motorcycle, killing him and injuring his daughter. Minutes before the crash, Christy Sisneros says she saw Jacobs driving poorly and she called 911. She lives in the county and no deputies responded before he drove off again and allegedly caused the crash.

The Valencia County Sheriff’s office says they only had five deputies working at the time, and they were tied up with other crimes and another fatal crash. A spokespersons says current funding only allows for the five deputies per shift.

While that’s in addition to city-wide police departments, the sheriff’s office says they could still use more hands on deck. It would be up to county commissioners to provide more money and add more people per shift.
