The tumbleweed problem is so bad in Clovis, the military is now involved.

Tumbleweeds took over Clovis after a storm this weekend.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 went to Clovis where some homeowners are still digging out.

While people in the north are shoveling feet of snow, people in Clovis are shoveling feet of tumbleweeds.

A storm Sunday carried thousands of tumbleweeds into town, covering streets and filling backyards to the brim.

The tumbleweeds piled so high in places, homeowners couldn’t see out their windows.

“We tried to get out of the house and front door and back door was both covered with tumbleweeds and we couldn't get out," said Wilford Ransom.

Ransom said the problem was so bad, he couldn’t get out of his house.

He called 911 for help.

“The lady asked what was the emergency and I told her we were covered with tumbleweeds and we couldn't get out of the house," said Ransom.

Ransom’s backyard is covered in 3-4 feet of tumbleweeds.

“It was like a whirlwind of tumbleweeds.  They were moving across the road as well as in the air.  It was like masses of tumbleweeds like ocean waves almost," said George Cobb.

Cobb saw the storm.

“Tumbleweeds were spinning in the air," said Cobb.

And like many in Clovis, he’s digging out of tumbleweeds.

But it’s not just neighbors who need help; the city has been clearing tumbleweeds.

But they had to bring in reinforcement from Cannon Air Force Base.

“It’s a big mess.  It’s going to blow tumbleweed stubbles for a while," said Eddie Ward.

So where do you put all the tumbleweeds?

They’ll end up in a landfill.

They’ll be smashed down to keep them from blowing back into town.
