She was born in New Mexico and believes her mother, who walked out on her family when she was very young, might still live here.
All Vanessa Cesena knows about her mother is what she wrote on a poster that was posted to Facebook.
Her name is Brenda, and that's all she knows. Brenda Martinez-Hinojos.
Cesena posted the picture under her birth name – Sophia Lorena Garcia.
She was born in Grants, and her mother left pretty early.
Vanessa said her father kept leaving her in his friend's care until he finally was asked to care for her permanently.
So, when Vanessa was five years old, she was adopted, and lost contact with her father and brother.
More than 13 years later, she was reunited with her brother. That's when she found out her father had killed himself.
But, she's moving forward and she said seeing her mother would answer a lot about her own identity.
"I just want to know what she looks like. I don't know where these hands come from, I don't know where my eyes come from, I don't know where this hair comes from...I just...it's nice to put a face to it," she said.
She has let go of any resentment she held toward the woman who left. She wants the woman she only knows as Brenda to know that.
"I'm not angry anymore, I'm done, I can't. I just want to meet her."
Vanessa had approximately 300 shares of her picture prior to KOB Eyewitness News 4's sharing of it on our Facebook page. Since then it has been shared over 1,500 times.
