Super Bowl Sunday came and went this year, but people are still talking Monday morning about the commercials. A 30-second ad cost $4 million, but advertisers said that's a reasonable deal.
There's also plenty of debate about whether or not the Super Bowl was a good game. Of course, that depends on if your favorite team won, but a majority of advertising experts and viewers said the commercials this year were pretty good.
Del Esparza, president of Esparza Advertising, said three out of every four televisions in New Mexico were tuned into the Super Bowl. Esparza pointed out that most of the ads were family friendly.
Esparza said the goal of the ads goes beyond selling the product.
"It taps into an emotion, whether it's going to tap into a humor emotion or maybe a nostalgia emotion. Maybe a pride emotion," Esparza said.
American pride seemed to be a consistent theme in this year's commercials. Esparza said it's something viewers haven't seen in multiple commercials during the game.
"Compared to prior Super Bowls, this Super Bowl really had had a lot of commercials stressing American pride, talking about soldiers, thanking soldiers. That's something that's atypical and hasn't always been the theme in years past," Esparza added.
