New Mexico State Police have captured a woman who escaped jail and stole a police car.

Police officials say the prisoner, 27-year-old Bridget Romero, was handcuffed in the back seat of the patrol car. When the officer was not in the unit, Romero was able to slip out of the handcuffs and gain access to the driver's seat.

Romero then took off in the unmarked police car. The unit was found Sunday night, but Romero's whereabouts remained unknown.

Tuesday, State Police received a tip as to the location of Romero. Officers responded to a home in Milan. Romero surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.

Romero is facing several felony charges. A shotgun that was in the police vehicle when Romero took it has not been recovered.
