Olympic fever is spreading all over the world and right here at home.
In Albuquerque, sporting goods stores are getting ready for what they expect to be a busy couple of weeks.
It may be the rush, the praise, or the fame.
Whatever it is, every couple of years, some people are inspired by the Olympics.
Jon Welch is the owner of Play It Again Sports in northeast Albuquerque.
Welch expects to see about a 15 percent jump in sales throughout the next couple of weeks, all because people will be coming in interested to learn about Winter Olympic sports.
Welch says it's expensive to just try a sport.
Hockey, for instance, can cost a few hundred dollars for new or used equipment.
"It takes a lot of dedication to be an Olympic athlete and we all want that dedication in our life I think=," shopper Kim Cordova said.
Cordova says it's something that's good for her son to see.
"It's good for them to see that diligently working at that, you'll get the rewards," she said.
As for whether her son will want to try out a new sport, she'll wait and see, but hockey would be fun.
"They see it, you know. They want to try it and see if they like it."
