Some parents in Estancia say they're getting an unsafe ride to school after a middle-school boy is accused of repeated sexual activity on a school bus.
The parents want action, and they took their concerns to the school board Tuesday night.
Some parents say they don't want their kids riding the school bus until something is done. The meeting was a chance to make themselves heard.
Tracey Master is a grandmother. Her grandchildren ride the Estancia school bus every day.
But, after what she's heard, she doesn't think Estancia's buses are safe anymore.
Master says district staff aren't doing their jobs. Multiple students have reported the same male middle-school student watching porn on a cell phone and engaging in sexual acts on Estancia buses on three different occasions.
Master and several mothers say the student is related to a district employee and hasn't been punished.
The student wasn't addressed Tuesday night; instead, the district put forward a list of new bus procedures, including a ban on cellphones and separating genders.
Master says it's an adult supervision problem. School board member Jesus Lucero agreed.
Discussion on the issue lasted only about 15 minutes, leaving Master and other parents feeling cheated.
Tonight's meeting was a big letdown for the parents who attended.
In the end, a list of eight new bus procedures were introduced but never voted on.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 tried to speak with board members about bus policy and the fate of the student involved but no one wanted to talk.
