ALBQUERQUE (AP) - Albuquerque school officials say teacher absences are down with the start of a new system for evaluating teachers.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, district data indicates that teacher absences because of illness are down over 15 percent at APS. That decrease is from the first half of the current school year to the first half of last year.
Under the evaluations, attendance counts toward 10 percent of a teacher's overall score, and Superintendent Winston Brooks says it's clear that the decrease in teacher absences is directly related to the new evaluation system.
He says every month has seen absenteeism lower this school year than last.
However, Brooks says other factors that could be contributing to the decrease include a mild winter.
