SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Roswell Democrat Tim Jennings has been confirmed by his former Senate colleagues to serve on a state board overseeing $18 billion in public investments.

Jennings, who served in the Senate for 34 years, was named to the State Investment Council last year by the Legislature.

The Senate voted 39-0 on Friday to confirm his nomination.

The Roswell rancher lost his re-election bid in 2012. He was targeted in the race by a political group formed by allies of Republican Gov. Susana Martinez.

Senators - Republicans and Democrats - praised Jennings for his long career of public service and his work on behalf of the developmentally disabled.

Republican Sen. Sander Rue described Jennings as a "man of honor, a man of integrity and a man of his word."
