A Santa Fe man is proving that it's never too late to try something new. At the ripe age of 68, Mark Tamoglia is gliding to victories on the ice.

"I call it the fountain of youth," Tamolgia said.

It's the ice in that fountain that's keeping Tamoglia feeling young.

"You have to keep moving," Tamoglia said. "You have to keep doing something you enjoy."

Tamoglia ice skated as a child on the lakes of Wisconsin. He was excited about the ice rink opening in Santa Fe in 1996. He was actually the first person in line.

It wasn't until Tamolgia was 55 years old that he decided he was serious about figure skating.

"It is the closest thing to flying you will find," Tamolgia said. "I mean, the freedom, the joy of accomplishing something, after you've tried and tried and failed."

Tamoglia decided to throw his whole heart into his new hobby. He realized it's never too late to discover something new about yourself.

"I thought, 'I'm not competitive,'" Tamoglia said. "Until I competed the first time and said, 'Wow! Who is that inside of me?'"

His biggest moment so far was the Adult Nationals competition in Salt Lake City in 2011.

Tamoglia was competing in the 55 and older category.

"There were eight of us and they were five to ten years younger than I," said Tamoglia. "And I beat everybody. And that was, without a doubt, one of my favorite."

Since then, Tamoglia has skated in dozens more competitions. Each day on the ice he keeps pushing himself to do better, because he says it's never too  late to chase your dreams.
