A photo sent to KOB eyewitness News shows the owner of an RV dumping raw sewage into Albuquerque's North Diversion Channel.
KOB showed the agency in charge of the arroyo system.
"Disgusting, it's truly disgusting," Jerry Lovato of the Flood Control authority said.
Why do we have to clean this up when someone does something idiotic like this?
It's because anything that you put into the arroyos end up in the Rio Grande.
The river has become Albuquerque's main drinking water source.
Raw sewage, full of fecal matter, is the last thing we want mixed in there.
"It is our water source but it is cleaned by the water authority," Lovato said.
A bike trail along the diversion channel is popular for bicyclists and joggers. By Monday afternoon, most of the sewage had been cleaned up, but the smell still lingered.
A quick search showed 24 free locations within Albuquerque where RV owners can dump their waste.
