The family of 12-year-old Alex Madrid turned to the Albuquerque community on Saturday to raise money for his funeral.
Deputies say Madrid was murdered by his 15-year-old friend Brandon Villalobos in a field outside Meadow Lake.
Where there is pain in our New Mexico communities—it is not hard to find the helping hands.
Saturday was one of those days.
In an Albuquerque K-Mart parking lot, 12-year-old Alex Madrid’s family and friends came together to ask for support to bury a little boy whose life was cut short.
“We’re having a car wash for Alex Madrid,” Madrid's aunt Patricia Gallegos said. “He was like every other ordinary boy, just a happy go lucky kid.”
There was no shortage of support for Madrid on Saturday.
Gallegos stood side-by-side with Alex’s mom Roxanne Madrid.
“He loved his little sister, he helped me out a lot with her,” Madrid said.
But amidst the pain, there is hope.
Dozens of cars waited to be washed and two $100 donations for Madrid’s funeral were given all before noon.
“We appreciate it, thank you,” Gallegos said
“We appreciate all the help,” Madrid said.
Another car wash fundraiser for Madrid will be held on Sunday at the Walgreens on Central and San Mateo from 10:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Two accounts have also been set up for people to make donations.
One account is at the New Mexico Federal Credit Union and the other is at Wells Fargo.
People will need to say that they want to provide a donation to the fund for Alex I Madrid.
