A New Mexico soldier was severely injured in a live fire training accident at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

25-year-old Sergeant Cory Muzzy of Pecos, NM had to have his right leg amputated.

His wife, Michelle Muzzy, tells KOB Eyewitness News 4 that he is also blind in both eyes.

Muzzy was one of several soldiers injured in Friday's artillery training.

One soldier was killed in the accident.

Muzzy's wife tells KOB that he is still in the hospital, but is expected to survive.

"I just want to thank everybody," Michelle Muzzy said. "You never think this would happen to you and just know that everybody is there for you is a big deal."

The army is investigating the accident.
