A deadly crash on Tuesday morning has New Mexico State Police wondering if alcohol was involved.

Police said 30 year-old Gilbert Garcia of Albuquerque was killed after he drove the wrong way on I-25 between Socorro and Belen. Garcia crashed head on into a big rig.

State police told KOB Eyewitness News 4 Garcia was going south in the northbound lanes on I-25 when he crashed into a big rig, causing both to go up in flames.

When police got to the scene, Garcia was dead. The driver of the big rig received minor injuries.

KOB did some digging on Garcia and found he was arrested back in July of 2013 for DWI.

As for whether alcohol was involved in Tuesday’s crash, state police said it’s too early to tell. They’ll have to wait on toxicology results.
