A man who climbed to the top of a power pole Thursday afternoon was electrocuted, killing him instantly.

Police received a call from a homeowner near 94th and Sunset Gardens at around 4 p.m. The caller stated that a man was in their backyard and it was believed the man had a gun.

When officiers arrived they found the man standing on top of a power pole and appeared agitated. Two of the responding officers, both of whom are crisis intervention trained, began trying to talk to man down from the pole.

At some point, the man grabbed a live electrical wire, electrocuting him. Paramedics transported the man to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The man has not been identifed. The Office of the Medical Investigator will identify the man and make notifications to his next of kin.
