A high school freshman, who was involved in a bullying incident that sent her to the hospital, will return to class on Monday.

However, her mother says that she is going with her to ensure her safety.

Freshman Destinee Torres says she told her principal a group of girls planned to beat her up on Thursday.

Torres says she was assured she would be protected.

But the teen was attacked when she walked out of her third period class.

"One of them was waiting for me and then she started hitting and then my nose started bleeding and then my friend called one of the teachers and stopped it,” Torres said.

Albuquerque Public Schools say administrators planned to do a sit-down but were trying to talk with the girls individually first.

The fight happened before all the meetings were completed.

The girl accused of throwing the punches was suspended by the district.
