Some horse owners in Corrales haven’t been able to ride their horses for weeks because their saddles are gone. Viewers reached out to KOB Eyewitness News 4 for help, and said someone is going around, stealing saddles that worth hundreds, even thousands of dollars.

George Marr owns Cimarron Corrals. He’s never had a problem here until a few weeks ago, when one of his clients noticed something was missing. “George, my saddles are done, and I had a hard time believe that until I went in there and saw where they had used cutters,” said George Marr.

It didn’t stop there. Marr said 5 saddles have been stolen at the stable and the problem is being seen at other stables in Corrales, as well.

Mel Knight’s saddle – gone. Knight said it was stolen from the stable right behind her house. “I don’t have the money to be forking out that for a new saddle,” said Mel Knight.

Saddles are pricey. They run anywhere from $500 to $5,000. That’s a lot of money for someone looking to make a quick buck. But for horse owners – these saddles mean something more. “It was a Christmas present, my saddle, 15 years ago from my husband,” added Knight.

As for who’s doing it – they have no idea.

“These are the kind of saddles we all want,” said Marr.

“Everybody is just sick about it. You know, you come out to live in a community that’s like Corrales, that’s safe and you feel secure. There’s a sense of community and you don’t think about having to lock up everything,” said Knight.

Corrales police are investigating. So far, over $10,000 work of saddles have been reported stolen.
