A local commercial is getting a lot of people talking. In the commercial, you see a man crashing into a pole and dying – all because he was distracted from texting while driving.
“Our job is to create conversation,” said Richard Kuhn, the man behind the commercial.
Kuhn’s group, VWK, is contracted by the department of transportation to get the word out about the dangers of texting and driving.
“We have to shock people, you know, we have to get people to pay attention,” added Kuhn.
Kuhn said the commercial has to be provocative, it has to be bold and it has to get people talking and thinking.
So far, it’s working.
“That’s rough. I hope that doesn’t happen to nobody I know,” said Kenneth Parks, a UNM student.
“People don’t realize how dangerous it is. They just don’t think about it because they do it all the time,” said Anna Adams, also a UNM student.
Starting July 1, it will be illegal to text while driving in New Mexico.
