The investigation continues Wednesday morning to find out what caused an oil rig fire that burned two people.

KOB Eyewitness News 4’s Chopper 4 flew over the scene south of Farmington on Tuesday. KOB saw firefighters still dousing the scene with water two hours after the fire broke out.

A viewer, whose husband works at the rig, sent KOB pictures of the fire. The picture shows flames covering the rig and smoke everywhere.

KOB learned that once the investigation is over, companies will study this fire to see what went wrong.

KOB talked to the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association who said they’re working on a website with the state. The website will show accident investigations, risk assessments and other best practices.

“In some cases there are subtle things that are dangerous and those are the sorts of things we spend a lot of time, money and effort training folks to be aware of something you might not think of being hazard or a danger,” said Wally Drangmeister.
