The majority of the employees at Applied Research Associates Incorporated have never seen the kind of violence they are being trained for right now.
“You hear about these kinds of events in the news more now than years past,” said Division Manager Bryan Milligan who is not a fighter, but he says he could be.
He is one of dozens of employees at Applied Research Associates Incorporated in Albuquerque taking part in this training.
South West Training Consultants teaches three simple ideas that follows the concept a video funded by a grant from The Department Homeland Security calls RUN. HIDE. FIGHT.
“Get out of the way if you can, hide if you can and if you're faced with it take action. Don’t stand there and try to reason with somebody,” Milligan said, “
Michael Quinones, owner of SWTC says he launched four months ago to answer the growing demand for workplace protection. The trainers are all part of law enforcement.
Quinones says it's already happened here before. Most recently, the Roswell shooting and in 2010 a gunman killed himself and two others at the EMCORE Corp.
He says the training isn’t meant to scare, but to be prepared.
