The stepfather of a 9-year-old boy killed in a suspected child abuse case bonded out of jail Sunday night.
Steve Casaus was arrested Saturday after police said he failed a field sobriety test. Officers pulled him over on suspicion of drunken driving after seeing him running red lights near San Mateo and Montgomery.
Police also found scales, a large amount of pot, meth and heroin in his car.
Casaus is expected to face a judge on Monday.
Community civil rights groups are asking the district attorney to look into possible charges against Casaus for Omaree Varela's death.
Last December, police said the child was kicked to death by his own mother.
