The search for a man accused of hurting a child is expanding statewide.

The crime was reported in Roswell, but there’s reason to believe the suspect may be in Albuquerque.

Roswell police are asking for your help finding a man they say raped a child.

31-year-old Andrew Chavez is accused of committing a horrifying crime.

According to court documents, he’s been raping a 9-year-old girl repeatedly for the last two years.

“It’s disgusting, it's sick. He's sick, he's disgusting," said Priscilla Gibson, one of Chavez’s ex-girlfriends. "I'm mad, I’m hurt, I don't understand it. It's just awful."

Roswell police got involved over the weekend when the child ended up in a hospital emergency room.

That’s when she told doctors of the abuse.

But police say Chavez disappeared before they could arrest him.

“If anybody knows where he's at, if anybody sees him, please call the cops.  He's disgusting, he needs to be punished, and he needs to be caught," said Gibson.

The search for Chavez has expanded to Albuquerque after someone reported seeing a car that could have been his.

It’s a 2002 white, 4-door Lexus with dark tinted windows and 20-inch rims.

The word “Lexus” is on the windshield.

Police tell KOB Eyewitness News 4 that in addition to Albuquerque, they’re alerting police in California and El Paso, Texas to be on the lookout for Chavez.

If you know anything about the whereabouts of Chavez, call the Roswell Police Department at 575-624-6770.
