Andrew Chavez, who is suspected of raping a nine-year-old girl over the past two years, was arrested Thursday afternoon by Roswell police.

Police arrested Chavez at his home in Roswell. Police tell KOB Eyewitness News 4 that Chavez refused to surrender until KOB reporter Lauren Hansard, who broke the story Wednesday, left the scene.

According to court documents, Chavez had been raping a 9-year-old girl repeatedly for the last two years. “It’s disgusting, it's sick. He's sick, he's disgusting," said Priscilla Gibson, one of Chavez’s ex-girlfriends. "I'm mad, I’m hurt, I don't understand it. It's just awful."

Roswell police got involved over the weekend when the child ended up in a hospital emergency room. That’s when she told doctors of the abuse.
